The paper introduces the basics of film tourism with regard to its aspects and forms and further analyzing the successful planning strategies in various destinations. The review of the existing literature revealed the range of marketing activities related to film tourism and identified, which ones are in place currently in Hungary. The current Hungarian film tourism situation was assessed via mixed method research with the focus on the country’s image, awareness and attitude towards film tourism on a national and international level and the various stakeholders’ activities regarding film tourism in the country. The research concluded that the awareness is very low regarding Hungary’s participation in Hollywood films and that the film tourism potential of the country is underutilized. Some implications and suggestions for Hungary are highlighted for future development and further research.
