As well as the other popular tourism destinations, the number ofinternational tourists in Hungary is increasing and tourism industry in Hungary israpidly developing. With the increasing competition between the destinationsworldwide, understanding the role of Destination Management Organization (DMO) isimportant. Therefore, the study will reveal the current situation of DMOs in Hungary.The research method was chosen qualitative research and data was collected by threetourism experts from Budapest, with semi-structured interviews. In addition to theinterviews, website analysis was conducted to evaluate and understand the role ofDMOs in Hungary. As for a high importance destination within the country – as a casestudy the study shows that DMOs in Budapest are promoting the destination byorganizing a variety of festivals and issuing a destination card: the Budapest Card. Also, as a result of the destination analysis, Budapest is full of tourist attractions withcultural and natural and DMOs use its strengths in effective way, thus, the study provesthat Budapest is a successful quality destination. As the other DMOs in Hungary,Szentendre, Gyula, and Hévíz are further cases to evaluate the DMO activity. Thesetowns have quality DMO websites while there is still need an improvement of internetcommunication tools. The practical implications of this paper will be useful as a basisfor future researchers to understand the role of DMOs in Hungary. | |
