To reach this goal, some of them choose to invest in the CEE area. Chinese government is supporting this expansion under bilateral and multilateral agreements, like the 17+1 or the Belt and Road Initiative. In the following paper, I’ll present the Chinese FDI in Hungary. I compared the volume and nature of the Chinese FDI in the EU11 countries[1], and then detailed the nature of the investments in the Visegrad 4 countries. Most of the Chinese FDI flows into Western European countries. Among EU11 countries, between 2005 and 2020, Hungary received the most Chinese FDI. In the European Union Chinese companies are most active in the transportation and energy industry. The pattern is the same in the EU11 countries, the main industries are the Transportation, Health and Energy. The distribution of the sectors where Chinese FDI is present proves to be Hungary slightly different, the main sectors are the Chemical, Transportation and Tech industry.
