Given the present situation in which more than half of the population living in developing and least developed countries subsists in abject poverty and struggles to meet the most basic human needs, the need for higher growth levels has never been more urgent. In particular, rapid urbanization rates are causing housing shortages, labor shortages, increased corruption, and slower economic growth. Recent evidence has nevertheless shown that, unless a balance is achieved between economic growth and the environment, potential opportunities for growth may be seriously undermined. To take a closer look at the countries’ economic performance, a comparative analysis between developed, developing and least developed countries – Hungary, Mongolia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo – was made using a mix of systematic literature review and questionnaire research methods. The thesis collects both primary and secondary data that are at the end synthesized to develop recommendations on implementing sustainability in these country classifications. Overall, 30 full-text papers and studies were reviewed to analyze the concept, the countries’ economic stance, past taken actions, and other implications to the sustainable development. | |
