Abstract:This study raises issues related to the current state of ecotourism and the prospects for its development in Russia. Russia is a vast country, with huge tourist and recreational reserves, many natural areas, natural monuments. According to the estimations of the World Tourism Organization, it has great potential for the development of ecotourism and the opportunity to be on the list of leading countries in this direction. However, there are a number of constraints and problems that prevent a more active development of ecotourism in Russia. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the state of ecotourism in Russia and the prospects for its development.  To achieve the final result, it is necessary to analyze different approaches to the concept and definition of ecotourism, to identify the main objectives and types of ecotourism, to investigate environmental problems in Russia and to consider the directions and prospects of ecotourism development on the example of the case study of the "Elovoe" tourist resort in the South Ural part of Russia. The objectives of this dissertation were to identify the main directions in which ecotourism in Russia can develop.Keywords: ecology, eco-tourism, environmental education, conservation of the environment, environmental protection activities, nature management.
