Since the introduction of the concept, two types of carbon markets emerged: compliance markets and voluntary markets. Both have been proliferating in the past years, but the lack of comprehensive regulation hindered the progress. The COP 26 resulted in the Glasgow Rulebook, which paves a new path for carbon markets, making trade between countries and private entities possible. The thesis reviews existing initiatives to expand carbon markets and suggests a model which would make this link happen, with solutions to problems mentioned by the academic literature.
