Kivonat:This thesis is situated within the interest of securitization theory in the analysis of infectious diseases as a security problem. It seeks to contribute to the body of research on critical securitization studies by analyzing the recent COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and the way it was addressed by intergovernmental organizations as a matter of international security. The research examines the relationship between security and health, by analizing the recent COVID-19 pandemic through the framework of securitization theory.  The analysis goes into how two intergovernmental organizations, namely the World Health Organization and the United Nations Security Council, responded to the coronavirus pandemic, particularly in light of their previous handling of global health crises.  The focus is on the UNSC and their resolutions.
