In our country a double rural image was formed, the western countries strongly affected the western regions of Hungary while the eastern regions must face numerous side effects of underdevelopment. This paper explores new areas where the Northern Great Plain could develop its current tourism and economic state. To find suitable solutions, the study analysed the capability, the present challenges, and opportunities of the region through scientific papers, and in order to have a deeper insight of the research, a questionnaire was conducted with 100 respondents and three semi- structured interviews were implied. The results have shown that the region could serve multiple type of tourists at the same time. Due to its huge cultural and natural resources tourism could develop mainly in these factors, but gastronomy and active tourists could find suitable programs as well. Results also revealed the main motivating factors for tourists, in case of Northern Great Plain, are sights and services along natural attractions. However, the demand for these new touristic products are present, the suppliers need to take into consideration developing and potentially cooperating with each other, to represent the whole region. Moreover, the reason behind Hungary’s twoness, in terms of development, is the eastern region’s social backwardness and economic challenges caused by that. While the western region hosts permanent residents from mainly Austria and from western countries which have direct and indirect effects on local development. The study concludes that the Northern Great Plain could be as competitive as its western rivals although many areas still require development. Concerning the financial resources, numerous tenders are available in order to develop the rural economy and tourism. Further research could be applied in the regional education, and in the product development in the Northern Great Plain. | |
