The tourism industry in Uruguay heavily relieson its extensive coastline, which boasts over 660 kilometers of white sandy beaches,making it a popular destination for “sun and beach” tourists. Among the mostprominent of these destinations is Punta del Este, a coastalcity that has experienced tremendous growth in tourism over the years. Punta del Esteis the country's second most visited tourist destination and plays asignificant role in the country's economy. While tourism has had a positiveimpact on the city's economy by generating employment and businessopportunities for locals, it has also caused negative effects, such as the lossof natural spaces, traffic congestion, and seasonal declines in income. Uruguayhas placed a strong emphasis on promoting sustainable tourism practices topreserve its natural resources while promoting responsible travel. Theimportance of Punta del Este as a tourist center and the new trend in Uruguayin promoting sustainable tourism, has established the study of this thesis, thetourist seasonality of Punta del Este and the state strategies focused on thediversification of the tourist offer of the destination. The manner inwhich tourism evolves in Punta del Este has a crucial impact on the economy,society, and environment of Uruguay. | |
