| 520 | 3 | |a Since the 1990s along with the processes ofglobalization, cross-border capital flows became significant not only for theworld economy but also for Eastern European countries including Hungary. Afterthe change of the regime, Hungary opened its borders to Western economies. It became a target of foreign direct investment, and since then foreign-ownedaffiliates have had a significant role in the Hungarian economy. The impact offoreign direct investment is examined by several researchers, though the caseof Hungary is analyzed by only a few researchers. The purpose of this study isto analyze the impact of foreign direct investment on economic growth inHungary, and to examine the correlation between the increase of foreign directinvestment inflows and inward FDI stock with the increase of gross domesticproduct. Therefore, the thesis analyzes the Hungarian investmentenvironment including the incentive system, and examines the contribution offoreign-owned affiliates to the Hungarian GDP. Foreign-owned affiliates have asignificant role in GDP growth, though additional aspects of FDI and MNCs arealso introduced in the thesis. For the analysis, mainly FDI/MNC data publishedby UNCTAD and FATS data published by HCSO were used. | |
