Kivonat: | One of the popular trends in the tourism industry is volunteer tourism. The platform Workaway provides possibilities worldwide for those seeking to give back to locals while travelling and an opportunity for individuals, families and projects to offer themselves as hosts. To contribute to the sparse body of academic literature surrounding Workaway and similar platforms, as the focus of the study the Hungarian Workaway hosts have been chosen. To get a relatively comprehensive picture, a self-completion questionnaire was the primary source of data. The main points of investigation were sustainability, the program's contribution to sustainable development, the general profile of the Hungarian Workaway host, and possible improvements in terms of it being a form of community-based tourism. It was found that hosts are on a good path when it comes to sustainability and their power to enhance development would lie in their community, however, it barely exists at the moment. Above all, they would be willing to contribute if given the opportunity. |
