Kivonat:The hotel business is a rapidly developing area and significant research carried out in the field addresses the importance of workplace performance appraisal in it. As part of my studies and internship towards obtaining a university degree, the current dissertation provides insights into a small-scale qualitative study about this particular topic. The research project was conducted with six participants from the Ibis Budapest Citysouth. The aim was to find out about how workplace performance appraisal motivated the employees and what its impact was on the working environment of the hotel. Data were collected mainly through an audio-recorded semi-structured interviews. An inductive approach to data analysis was adopted. The results of the research revealed numerous benefits which could be derived from the process of evaluation of the employees’ work. In this respect the findings of the study can offer useful implications for managers, supervisors and researchers in the hotel industry.
