Description
Abstract:Digitalization is an important topic nowadays as it is present all around the world. It refers to the integration of digital technologies into various aspects of society, economy, and culture, fundamentally transforming how individuals and organizations operate. In the financial sector, payment digitalization represents a significant innovation, encompassing the shift from traditional cash-based payment methods to digital platforms, enabling faster, more efficient, and secure transactions. China has emerged as a global leader in payment digitalization, driven by rapid technological advancements and widespread adoption of mobile payment platforms such as Alipay and WeChat Pay. The integration of these systems has reshaped consumer behaviour, financial infrastructure, and even government policy. The Chinese economy, as a result, has witnessed profound changes, including increased financial inclusion, enhanced economic efficiency, and the rise of the digital economy. This thesis explores the influence of payment digitalization on the Chinese economy from multiple perspectives. It examines its impact on geopolitics, exports, financial inclusion and China’s technological influence on other geographies. Furthermore, the study evaluates the challenges and risks associated with digital payments, raising significant concerns about data privacy and human rights. By providing a comprehensive analysis of the digitalization of payments in China, this thesis aims to shed light on the transformative power of digital technologies in shaping modern economies.
