Kivonat:In an era of globalization and economic integration, Vietnam has achieved notable export successes, especially in agriculture. However, with the EU’s recent implementation of carbon policies like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Vietnam’s agricultural exports face new challenges. CBAM requires imports to meet specific carbon emission standards, which significantly impacts nations with energy-intensive production. Given the EU’s prominence as a major export market for Vietnam, a comprehensive evaluation of CBAM’s impact on agricultural exports is essential for Vietnam to maintain and expand its market share within the EU. Global research has largely focused on CBAM’s effects on exports in various countries. Acar (2021) demonstrated CBAM’s potential adverse effects on Turkey’s GDP, whereas Korpar (2023) projected CBAM’s environmental impact as modest. In Vietnam, studies addressing CBAM remain limited, especially in the agricultural sector. Although there is some research on agricultural exports to the EU, no study has yet assessed CBAM’s impact on this trade. This research gap represents a crucial area that this study aims to address by evaluating CBAM's influence on Vietnam's agricultural exports to the EU. This study poses the following questions: How will CBAM affect the costs and competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the EUmarket? Which aspects of CBAM may create advantages or obstacles for Vietnamese exporters? What strategies can help Vietnamese firms leverage opportunities and reduce CBAM’s challenges? How will CBAM influence trends and volumes of Vietnam’s agricultural exports to the EU from 2023 to 2034? This research applies a qualitative approach to evaluate CBAM's impact on Vietnam’s agricultural exports to the EU. Using a SWOT analysis, the study examines strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats posed by CBAM. Additionally, in-depth interviews with Vietnamese agricultural exporters to the EU will provide real-world insights into their challenges and adaptive strategies, offering a comprehensive view of their response to CBAM. Preliminary findings suggest that CBAM creates new cost-related challenges and compliance standards but also opens opportunities for technological upgrades and competitive improvements. Overall, this research not only clarifies CBAM's impact on Vietnam’s agricultural exports but also proposes actionable solutions to help Vietnam maintain and expand its market share in the EU while enhancing competitiveness in the global market.
