| Kivonat: | This thesis explores how participation in queer subcultures influences personal identity, particularly among LGBTQ+ youth. Using a mixed-methods approach, combining interviews and a survey, it investigates whether queer individuals seek out communities that reflect their identity, or whether their identity is shaped through these communities. Grounded in queer theory and media studies, the research shows that identity and community are deeply interconnected. Social media platforms play a central role, providing access to language, aesthetics, and support networks that help users better understand and express themselves. While these spaces offer powerful tools for self-discovery and belonging, they also reveal internal pressures and norms. Overall, the study finds that identity is not fixed, but formed through participation, representation, and cultural exchange within queer subcultural spaces. |
