| Abstract: | The digital revolution has become a part of our lives almost imperceptibly over the course of a few decades. Information technology surrounds us everywhere. In the interim, the frequency and severity of data breaches and cyberattacks also show an increasing trend. The thesis seeks to define the prevalent threats while providing an up-to-date summary and effective countermeasures that prove to be helpful on an individual level. Furthermore, the current state of IT security is analyzed to gain insight into the world of cybercrime, attacks against leading sectors and critical infrastructure, the level of human involvement, and the costs of all these burdens. Lastly, a survey about the individual awareness was conducted via primary research methods to amplify what have been uncovered beforehand. |
