It addresses the following key questions:1. How do the soft power strategies of the United States and China differ in their approaches to Africa?2. What is the impact and perception of these strategies among African nations?3. How do historical ties, cultural affinities, and economic interests shape the effectiveness of these strategies in different African regions? To answer these questions, a mixed-methods research methodology was employed. The study includes a comprehensive literature review, a survey of 32 respondents from various African countries, and in-depth case studies of two significant projects: Power Africa and the Belt and Road Initiative in Nigeria. The research results indicate that China's soft power strategies are predominantly focused on economic engagement and infrastructure development, while the United States emphasizes democratic governance and humanitarian aid. This difference in emphasis has led to varying levels of influence and perception among African nations.Furthermore, the effectiveness of these soft power strategies is influenced by historical ties, cultural affinities, and economic interests in different African regions. These nuances highlight the complex nature of soft power competition in Africa and underscore the need for tailored approaches in specific contexts. In conclusion, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of soft power dynamics in Africa, shedding light on how major global players engage with the continent and the multifaceted factors that shape their impact and perception.
