| Kivonat: | Within the global scope of sustainable development, hotels are focused on both from an environmental and social perspective, due to their great importance in the hospitality sector. Hotels feel the need to implement new measures that support sustainable development and incorporate innovations to fulfill the growing needs of their guests concerning environmentally conscious choices as they wish to minimize the impact on their surroundings. This thesis seeks to provide insight into the process of sustainable development within hotels: the challenges the industry faces, the best practices hotels use or plan to use, the effectiveness of such practices, and the intention of hotels to broaden this ecologically conscious mindset to the whole sector. The main lines along which this thesis examines sustainable development within the hospitality industry are the existing initiatives in hotels and the managerial perspective of the topic. While hotels and companies contribute considerably to achieving global sustainable development goals, sustainable development efforts also increase their competitive advantages. |
